Wha Do Jin is famous for being a place where Korea-America Amity Commerce Treaty was signed with western country for the first time on May 22nd,1882 (19th year under Go Jung) with diplomat admiral Robert Wilson Schubert. To look at the background cause of establishment of Wha Do Jin in 128~163 Wha Soo Dong, Dong Gu, In Cheon city and surrounding area is on October 1877 (14th year under Go Jong) government received the report from Dong Rae chief administrator that Wha Rang Eui Jeol of Japan will visit Korea to negotiate opening of a port and after survey Jeolla Do area, they will come up to capital and after discussing the counter measure, in August 1878 (15th year under Go Jong) established Wha Do Jin to defend the coast of In Cheon and Boo Pyoung. It was geographically important because all the vessels going to Seoul had to pass In Cheon. Jin is abbreviation for Jin Young which means the post under navy and barracks of local army's semi army commend in the early Cho Sun Dynasty and Jin Sa means the site where Jin was located. Ultimately, Wha do Jin is the place where they built camp and fort on the coast of In Cheon to block Japanese invasion through west coast in the old Korea era.
